Welcome to the Website dedicated to Haddiscoe and Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe !
The site has been designed to show you around our beautiful villages and to allow the local people to find out what's going on and contribute to its wonderful community spirit.
Haddiscoe and Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe are very close neighbouring villages not far from Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and the City of Norwich. See Map.
We have about 500 people between us, some having lived here all their
lives, others only a short time - but we all call here home!
We have two churches, a village hall and two pubs nearby and we are right next to the famous Norfolk Broads.
Haddiscoe Village is part of The Haddiscoe Island. This is a triangular Island as its two adjoining rivers, the Waveney and Yar, are dissected by a man-made 'cut' which takes the boats on the Broads from the sea and on to Norwich. The 2000 acres of the Island are used in the summer months for grazing of cattle, often highland type, and is home to many species of birds and animals.
Apart from the above, Haddiscoe is locally renowned for the 'Haddiscoe Bends'. This is the unpredictable and challenging part of the A143 that passes our Villages - it is loved by bikers during the good weather for exactly this reason! Despite a speed limit reduction the road regularly sees accidents.
